Introdução

A cúrcuma (Curcuma longa Linn) é uma planta tropical perene, com rizomas, pertencente à família Zingiberaceae. Originária da Índia, é comumente encontrada no sul da Ásia. É um dos rizomas medicinais mais importantes, apresentando pigmentos amarelo-alaranjados com diversas atividades biológicas, como anti-inflamatória, imunomoduladora, antioxidante, hipolipemiante, antimicrobiana, anticarcinogênica, antitumoral, radioprotetora, neuroprotetora, hepatoprotetora, nefroprotetora e vasoprotetora.
