Introdução

Haloxylon ammodendron, uma pequena árvore resistente ao estresse, é uma espécie essencial para a fixação de areia, amplamente encontrada nos desertos e áreas de Gobi do noroeste da China. Em habitats extremos, como o Deserto de Gurbantunggut, sua notável tolerância à seca e à salinidade permite que ela prospere como espécie dominante. Frequentemente, ela sobrevive em locais muito estressantes, como topos de dunas, formando grupos densos de plantas. Esses aglomerados não só aumentam a chance de sobrevivência individual, mas também criam manchas de vegetação que se mantêm sozinhas, reduzindo a erosão pelo vento, estabilizando a areia e melhorando o solo e o microclima local. Por isso, H. ammodendron é um modelo ideal para estudar como as plantas se adaptam e como a vegetação interage com o ambiente em ecossistemas áridos.

Introdução

Haloxylon ammodendron é uma planta de grande importância ecológica por sua capacidade de se adaptar a condições desérticas, ambientes salinos e por ajudar a fixar a areia. É uma espécie promissora com valor ecológico, capaz de contribuir para o sequestro de carbono, além de ser um valioso modelo de planta C4 para entender a base genética da tolerância extrema à seca.
