Introdução

Bactérias que vivem na região das raízes das plantas, conhecidas como rizobactérias promotoras de crescimento vegetal (PGPR), têm uma influência importante no equilíbrio de íons e no crescimento das plantas, especialmente em condições de estresse. Essas bactérias colonizam a área ao redor das raízes e ajudam as plantas a crescerem melhor por meio de processos como a liberação de fósforo de minerais, a fixação de nitrogênio do ar, a produção de substâncias que capturam ferro (sideróforos) e hormônios vegetais, além de poderem ativar mecanismos de defesa na planta. Isso pode ser muito útil para recuperar solos salgados usando plantas que toleram sal, como as halófitas. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar como as PGPR de áreas alagadas (sapais) melhoram a saúde e a proteção da planta Halimione portulacoides quando ela enfrenta estresse salino leve ou severo. As plantas que receberam uma mistura de PGPR mostraram melhor desempenho na fotossíntese, uma resposta antioxidante mais eficiente e um melhor equilíbrio de água, o que as ajudou a lidar com o estresse salino leve. Essas mudanças também estavam relacionadas com diferenças nos níveis de sódio, potássio e cálcio nos tecidos da planta. Mesmo sob estresse salino severo, algumas características das plantas inoculadas melhoraram em comparação com as não inoculadas. Os resultados indicam que a adição dessas bactérias ao solo (bioaumentação) tem um papel importante em aumentar a saúde das plantas e sua tolerância ao sal, com grande potencial para uso na agricultura com água do mar, na restauração de áreas degradadas e na limpeza de solos salgados.
