Introdução

Spirodela polyrhiza é uma espécie de planta aquática que flutua na superfície da água, pertencente à família Lemnaceae. É comum em águas interiores da Croácia. Ela se destaca por se reproduzir tanto de forma vegetativa quanto sexuada, e por seu crescimento muito rápido. Além disso, tem a capacidade de remover nitrogênio, fósforo e alguns metais pesados do ambiente aquático, sendo considerada uma matéria-prima muito desejável para a produção de biogás.

Spirodela polyrhiza é uma espécie de lentilha-d'água amplamente distribuída, de pequeno porte, que pode flutuar ou ficar submersa. Suas flores são consideradas as menores do mundo.
