A Paeonia ostii é uma planta de grande importância na China, valorizada tanto como medicinal tradicional quanto ornamental. Reconhecida oficialmente como cultura oleaginosa industrial pelas autoridades chinesas, é cultivada em mais de 20 províncias devido ao alto rendimento de sementes (teor de óleo superior a 20%), à sua tolerância à seca e ao seu valor nutricional.
