Introdução

Esta cultivar de zimbro-vermelho é uma árvore sempre-verde que cresce de 10 a 14 metros de altura, com formato oval largo e se espalha de 4,5 a 7,5 metros quando plantada em local ensolarado. As pontas dos galhos pendem em direção ao chão, dando à árvore um hábito choroso. Isso a torna uma boa opção para destacar uma área da paisagem. No inverno, nas regiões mais frias, ela desenvolve um tom acastanhado e às vezes é usada em quebra-ventos ou cercas-vivas. O fruto é uma baga azul nas árvores femininas e é ornamental quando produzido em quantidade. Os pássaros comem os frutos e os espalham ao longo de cercas de fazendas e em campos abandonados. Alguns botânicos não separam Juniperus virginiana de Juniperus silicicola.

O zimbro-vermelho (Juniperus virginiana L.) é uma árvore que invade as pradarias de gramíneas altas da América do Norte, transformando-as em florestas em poucas décadas.

Introdução

Red cedar is an evergreen growing 25 to 45 feet tall in an oval, columnar, or pyramidal form (very diverse) and spreading 20 to 30 feet when given a sunny location. It develops a brownish tint in winter in the north and is sometimes used in windbreaks or screens. The fruit is a blue berry on female trees and is ornamental when produced in quantity. Birds devour the fruit and ‘plant’ it along farm fences and in old abandoned fields.
