Calluna vulgaris, popularmente conhecida como urze, é uma planta amplamente utilizada na medicina tradicional para tratar diversas condições, como reumatismo, artrite, problemas oculares, pedras nos rins, inflamação na bexiga e nos rins, bronquite, diarreia, eczema, pressão alta, irritabilidade excessiva, ansiedade e distúrbios do sono.

Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull é um arbusto baixo que ocorre em diferentes tipos de charnecas da Europa holártica e mediterrânea ocidental e noroeste da África.
