A Betula utilis D. Don, da família Betulaceae, também é conhecida como 'Bétula Prateada do Himalaia'. É uma planta medicinal importante, nativa das regiões de alta altitude do Himalaia, na Índia. Estudos anteriores sobre essa espécie revelaram a presença de triterpenoides, flavonoides e compostos fenólicos. O extrato da casca e os compostos isolados dessa planta mostraram atividades biológicas notáveis, como ação antimicrobiana, anticancerígena, anti-inflamatória e proteção ao fígado.
Introdução
Bhurjah (Betula utilis D. Don) é uma planta com longa tradição na medicina antiga, conhecida popularmente como Bhojpatra em hindi e bétula do Himalaia em inglês. No passado, sua casca era usada para escrever textos e literatura em sânscrito. Os antigos sábios utilizavam o Bhojpatra para registrar manuscritos, que resistiam ao tempo, apesar da ação de micróbios e fatores ambientais. Desde tempos imemoriais, o Bhurjah é empregado em rituais de Yagya pelos sábios.
Introdução
Betula utilis D. Don, comumente conhecida como bétula prateada do Himalaia ou Bhojpatra, é um membro de vida longa da família Betulaceae e cresce nas zonas subalpinas da região do Himalaia em altitudes que variam de 2.700 a 4.500 m. Esta espécie do gênero Betula possui valor significativo na medicina tradicional e popular, particularmente na medicina ayurvédica, onde sua casca tem sido usada para curar várias doenças, como infecções de sangue e ouvido, pneumonia, convulsões, doenças de pele e muitas outras.
