O Monkey-Puzzletree é uma árvore perene grande e peculiar, que atinge de 18 a 21 metros de altura e de 9 a 10,5 metros de largura. Ela forma uma copa piramidal solta e transparente, com um tronco reto. Seu hábito de crescimento é tão aberto que é possível quase olhar através dela sem vê-la. As folhas são verde-escuras, rígidas e pontiagudas, densamente dispostas em galhos horizontais, irregulares e curvados para cima. Essa árvore é um espécime atraente e exótico para grandes quintais abertos ou paisagens comerciais. Geralmente é plantada como uma curiosidade em áreas mais recuadas, longe da vista da maioria das pessoas, mas poderia ser o destaque em uma grande paisagem oriental.

A imponente Araucaria araucana (Molina) K. Koch (também conhecida como Araucaria imbricata Pav.) é uma gimnosperma que ocorre apenas nos Andes do sul, tanto na Argentina quanto no Chile.
