Introdução

Este estudo avaliou extratos de duas plantas medicinais, Acanthospermum hispidum e Ficus thonningii, usadas na medicina tradicional no Congo Brazzaville, para verificar sua atividade contra a malária em laboratório. Foram testadas duas cepas do parasita Plasmodium falciparum: a cepa 3D7, sensível ao medicamento cloroquina, e a cepa Dd2, resistente a esse mesmo medicamento.

Introdução

Em Burkina Faso, a maioria das pessoas, especialmente em áreas rurais, utiliza a medicina tradicional e plantas medicinais para tratar doenças comuns. Durante a busca por novos compostos antimaláricos, foi realizado um levantamento etnobotânico em diferentes regiões. Sete plantas frequentemente citadas por praticantes tradicionais e ainda não investigadas quimicamente foram selecionadas para uma triagem antiplasmódica, incluindo a Acanthospermum hispidum (DC).

Introdução

As partes aéreas da planta Acanthospermum hispidum D.C. são frequentemente utilizadas por curandeiros tradicionais no Benin para tratar diversas doenças, especialmente a malária.
