O Juncus effusus L., conhecido popularmente como junco-efuso ou junco-mole, é uma planta perene que cresce em áreas úmidas. Ele é encontrado em grande parte das zonas temperadas quentes da Eurásia e das Américas, sendo uma das espécies dominantes em diferentes altitudes.
Introdução
Os tatames são esteiras tradicionais japonesas feitas de um tipo de junco chamado igusa (Juncus effusus L. var. decipiens).

O Juncus effusus é uma planta herbácea que vive por vários anos, capaz de se autopolinizar, e é encontrada em áreas alagadas de regiões temperadas ao redor do mundo.
